AI for Qualitative research

Qualitative research is valuable, but working with interview data, open-ended responses, and conversational text takes time. AI can change that, if you know how to use it well.

This hands-on training gives you the practical AI literacy you need as a qualitative researcher. We will spend most of the day experimenting with tools, comparing results, and building intuition about what AI can and cannot do, and why that matters for your work.

Inhoud

AI Literacy through Practice

How do large language models actually work, and why do they sometimes surprise you? Through short exercises with different AI tools, you will experience the key principles firsthand — including why the same question can produce different answers, and why that has implications for your research. We will also discuss data privacy and security: what is and is not allowed?

Prompting for Research Purposes

What makes a prompt effective, and how do you stay in control of the output? You will practice formulating instructions that reflect your analytical intent rather than leaving the interpretation to the model.

AI in Interviews and Data Collection

When does AI add value in the interview process, and when does it fall short? You will explore AI interviewing from both sides — as participant and as designer — and discuss the implications for your work together.

Analysing Conversational Data with AI

We start by collecting what you are doing already, and then work through one example workflow together — drawing on the AI literacy we built during the day.

Participants are required to bring their own laptop.

If it turns out that there are no English-speaking participants, the language will be changed to Dutch.
